Managed or Unmanaged - that is the question. The answer really depends on you. If your company has a full-time IT staff, why would you pay your hosting company to manage your server when your IT staff is doing all the work? On the other hand, perhaps you need a lights-out, fully-managed hosting solution that allows you to concentrate on your business rather than worry about your hosting service. Whatever your particular situation is, Versaweb's Dedicated Hosting offers flexible management options so that you can tailor the level of services provided to best suit your needs.Unmanaged Dedicated Servers
Versaweb Dedicated Servers, by default, are 'unmanaged'. This means that once we set up your server and install the OS and any control panel you request, we will hand the server over to you for management. From that point forward, you or your staff is fully responsible for all aspects of managing and maintaining your server. Once you have taken control of your server, our tech staff is still available to assist you with the following tasks at no charge:
- Manual Server Reboots
- Remote Hands (up to 10 min)
- Control Panel Support Referrals
- Free 5-minute basic ping monitoring
- KVM over IP rental available
If you find that you require assistance with your server above and beyond the services listed above, you can request the assistance of our tech staff at any time. You can either purchase services from our Tech Services menu below, or you can purchase general admin time on an hourly basis for $120 per hour in 1/2 hour increments.
Please note that our tech staff will not log in to an unmanaged server unless you add a management plan to your account or agree to hourly billing for any work performed.
Managed Dedicated Servers
By adding our Advanced Management Plan (AMP) to your dedicated server for just $100 per month, your unmanaged server becomes a turn-key managed hosting solution. Our AMP management plan includes the following services:
- Up to 2 Hours of admin time per month
- 50% discount on additional admin time
- Initial server setup and hardening
- Sofware firewall install/configuration
- Pro-active Ksplice kernel updates
- On-demand operating system updates
- Advanced ping and service monitoring

With our staff monitoring and maintaining your server on a 24x7 basis, you can stop worrying about your dedicated server and instead focus your attention where it belongs - on your business.
Our AMP management plan is currently available only on Linux-based dedicated servers with cPanel or Plesk control panel. If you need assistance with your Windows or vanilla Linux server, our techs can assist you at our normal hourly tech rates.
Additional Tech Services
If you find yourself in need of some assitance but don't feel like you need a monthly managment plan, our per-incident or per-hour services may be just what you need. Many common requeests are priced as a flat fee, while more complex requests are typically billed on an hourly basis at $120 per hour in 1/4 hour increments.
